Da Nang enhances climate change adaptation capacity
The Secretariat of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) for the Southeast Asia region on Monday held a webinar on integrating climate change adaptation into local development plans.
The event was within the framework of the ASEAN City Leaders Dialogue themed “Finding Breakthrough and Stepping Up Climate Commitments Post-COP26”, which is aimed for city leaders to share their focus on building support for climate action and ambition to raise climate awareness and provide guidance to regional/local governments that can contribute to the climate goals.
Addressing the event, Ms. Pham Thi Chin, Director of the Sub-Department of Seas and Islands under the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and the Environment briefed the participants on the city's goals, priorities and initiatives in integrating climate change adaptation into local development plans, strategies, programmes and projects. Also, some difficulties and limitations in the implementation process were presented.
Da Nang now hopes that the United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) GCoM ) for the Southeast Asia region will create more favourable conditions for Da Nang to connect with other localities in the region in order to promote experience exchanges and effectively implement their own action plans to respond to climate change in the coming time.
