Da Nang youths join environmental cleanups, landscape beautifying to welcome Tet

Hundreds of Youth Union members and residents in Da Nang on Saturday actively participated in environmental cleanups and taking care of trees and flowers at some local venues with the aim of contributing to ensuring a clean and beautiful landscape and environment to welcome the coming traditional Lunar New Year 2022 (Tet).

An event calling for young local people to join cleanups was launched on Saturday by the Da Nang Youth Union, the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, the Center for Environment and Community Research (CECR), VIWACON and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Immediately after the launching ceremony, the leaders of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment and the Youth Union, along with more than 300 Youth Union members, participated in collecting waste and weeds along Thang Long Street, its neighbouring roads, and at the foot of Tien Son Bridge.

In the coming time, the municipal Youth Union chapters at all levels across the city will strengthen publicity on environmental protection and climate change response as well as implementing programmes and action models to protect water sources, combat plastic waste and plant new trees.

Also on the same day, the People’s Committee and the Youth Union of Nai Hien Dong Ward, Son Tra District coordinated with GreenViet biodiversity conservation centre launched the planting of 700 willow trees along the streets of Nai Thinh 7 , Van Don, Tran Thanh Tong and Hoang Quoc Viet, exactly surrounding a large area of vacant land, in a response to the GreenViet- initiated ‘One Million Trees in Cities’ (MTIC) programme .

In a similar vein, public servants and dwellers in Hoa Vang District together cleaned up the environment, plant new trees and take care of the existing ones along inter-village roads and public places.
