A virtual signing ceremony on conducting the pre-feasibility study for smart city in Da Nang took place on Wednesday between representatives from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), and those from the Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs, the municipal Department of Information and Communications, the Department of Transport, and the Authority of Da Nang’s Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Parks.

The purpose of the pre-feasibility study is to introduce digital maps for smart city planning of Da Nang and its Hi-Tech Park, especially conducting survey and collecting data about pilot public motorbike service in Da Nang with the aim to consider whether Da Nang has the possibility to develop into a smart city or not.

The pre-feasibility study will focus on assessing the current situation and challenges to realize smart city model in the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park, developing a digital transport map of Da Nang and its Hi-Tech Park, reviewing the existing master plan related to smart city development and Da Nang Hi-Tech Park, and introducing Japanese technology into public bicycle service in Da Nang.

During the online event, MLIT's consulting team introduced an overview of the Smart City project supported by Japan ASEAN Mutual Partnership (Smart JAMP). The purpose of the project is to contribute to realizing the development of a smart city in Da Nang from August 2021 to March 2022.

The expected result of the roadmap for implementing digital maps for Da Nang will be the formulation of an implementation roadmap, development plan and proposals to perfect the map, existing applications and digital tools of Da Nang such as DaNang IOT. (Map4D), and EcoBus app.

With a digital map for the Hi-Tech Park, top priority will be given to creating a 3D demo map and mapping out a roadmap to enhance the management capacity of infrastructure.

As for public bicycle service, heed will be paid to re-evaluating the current status of the feasibility study and making a business plan for the service. A workshop to introduce Japanese typical models in the city will be organised.

At the same time, 30-40 public bicycle stations will be built in the city center, and coastal areas in the east of the city namely Hai Chau, Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts.

During the 2026-2030, importance will be attached to building 40 public bicycle stations, as well as developing high-performance cloud servers, software for smart lock and mobile devices, and web-based operating system.

Representatives from Da Nang spoke highly the ideas and proposals of the project for matching the city’s architecture and planning in its roadmap to build a smart city in the time to come.
