On Monday, in Hue City, the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Red Cross Society launched an emergency relief project for people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Central Viet Nam.

Funded by the US Agency for International Development, the US$1 million project will be carried out in 40 communes in 10 central localities, namely Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen from now until April 2022 in a bid to help pandemic-affected people soon overcome difficulties and stabilise their lives.

Under the project, each locality will select four communes severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as floods in late 2020 to implement the project.

It is expected that over 12,000 households living near or below the city's poverty threshold, with over 37,300 people, will benefit from the project.

In addition to providing food coupons for the needy people, the project will focus on raising public awareness about hygiene and clean water, thus helping to prevent and slow down the disease transmission.
