Promoting natural disaster mitigation capacity in central Viet Nam
The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on Wednesday held a nationwide teleconference whose agenda focused on effective solutions to promote natural disaster adaptation and mitigation capacity in the central and Central Highlands regions of Viet Nam.
At the event, the leaders of nationwide localities, institutes, universities, and experts and scientists together discussed solutions to improve disaster risk reduction and resilience in the above-mentioned regions.
Focus should be placed on releasing timely forecasting and early warnings of natural disasters, ensuring the effective operation of irrigation and hydroelectricity reservoirs and upgrading the existing dykes and preventing riverbank and coastal erosion.
Also, heed should be to building natural disasters-resistant houses, evaluating the impact of infrastructure works on flood prevention and treatment solutions, ensuring the operation of floodwater drainage systems for the safety of urban areas, residential areas and production areas and effectively responding to landslides and flash floods, storms and sea level rise.
Other important tasks are to raise public awareness and community-based disaster risk management, strengthen the application of science and technology, international cooperation, digital transformation in natural disaster risk reduction and mitigation.
