Da Nang cracks down on illegal motorbike gatherings and races on Hai Van Pass
Recently, unlawful motorbike racing, popping a wheelie and violating traffic safety regulations by youngsters tend to increase on Hai Van Pass, causing traffic disorder and a high risk of accidents for c passersby. Therefore, Da Nang’s competent agencies have taken drastic actions to prevent and handle their wrongdoings.

Causing fear to passersby
The winding Hai Van Pass being fortunate to be blessed with charming and marvellous scenery attracts numerous tourists come to visit. However, recently, youngsters in Da Nang and neighbouring provinces have often gathered at the peak of the pass to race, swerve, swing, shout, cheer, and post clips on some social media platforms, arousing people's concerns and frustrations.
Ms Nguyen Thi Tuyet, residing in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District urgently said that, whenever she encounters some young racers riding motorbikes, swerving, and popping the wheelie on Hai Van Pass, she has to stop and wait for this group of youngsters to drive away to continuing her driving.
Similarly, Mr Nguyen Van Hoa, a driver who usually takes foreign tourists up to Hai Van Pass to admire the scenery, urgently reflected: " There have been countless times I feel terrified as encountering youngsters who don't wear helmets and do the wheelie on the pass. More ominously, this image makes foreign tourists appear dissatisfied.
According to Ms Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District, the natural beauty of Hai Van Pass has attracted loads of people and tourists come to visit and take pictures.
Therefore, the People's Committee of the ward in coordination with traffic police forces and Lien Chieu district’s authorities regularly propagate and remind people and tourists to strictly observe the regulations on prevention and control of COVID-19; absolutely do not gather, race and do the wheelie in order to ensure traffic safety. However, there are still a few cases of adolescents and young adults violating traffic laws on Hai Van Pass.
Prevent and strictly handle these violations
As shared by Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Rang, Head of Hoa Hiep Traffic Police Station, before and after the Lunar New Year 2022, the traffic police force fined 3 violations of traffic safety by youngsters in Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue provinces; more than 60 cases of underage motorbike drivers, carrying more than the prescribed number of people, going on the wrong side of the road, covering number plates or not wearing helmets when participating in traffic on Hai Van Pass.
The unit has regularly coordinated with Lien Chieu district-based functional forces to conduct patrol and handle violations, especially on weekends. At the same time, officers and soldiers of the unit often disguise, secretly record and promptly handle when detecting youths violating traffic safety regulations on the pass.
According to Mr Le The Nhan, Vice Chairman of Lien Chieu District People's Committee, in order to ensure traffic safety on the Hai Van pass route, the district-level Traffic Safety Board has directed the relevant authorities to strengthen propaganda, at the same time regularly organize patrols, promptly detect, prevent and strictly handle violations in order to ensure the safety of people and visitors coming here.
