Da Nang police issues warnings of phishing tricks through cyberspace
The Da Nang Police Department has released a warning about fraudsters taking advantage of cyberspace to cheat and appropriate property.
Currently, taking advantage of many people who are experiencing financial difficulties due to COVID-19 influence, some fraudsters use cyberspace to commit fraud by posting recruitment posts to recruit sale collaborators. This is a "trick" to illegally appropriate property.
Accordingly, the fraudsters using ‘virtual’ social networking accounts to post and run ads on social networking sites with the following content as “recruiting collaborators to trade on e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada and Tiki”.
For each purchase, the victim will be refunded plus a ‘commission’ from 10% to 20% of the order value.
Once connected, the victim will be given job instructions. Specifically, the fraudster will send the victim a link to the real product on e-commerce platforms and, at the same time, ask the victim to create an order and make payment. Then the “system” will refund the money attached with a commission.
For the first small value orders, the victim will be paid with a commission as promised in full.
In the subsequent occasions, with a larger number of orders, the criminal gives many reasons to refuse the return of money to the victims such as: the wrong syntax of composing the message and the faulty system.
If the victim wanted to receive money back, he/she would need to transfer more money for the order, otherwise all money will be forfeited.
Due to this trick, many victims have lost from a few million VND to hundreds of millions of VND.
In order to avoid falling victims to the above-mentioned trick, people are recommended to raise their vigilance and not let scammers appropriate property.
The police will focus on verifying and fighting criminals who use cyberspace to defraud and appropriate property in order to handle frauds in accordance with the law.
