Environmental pollution at Tho Quang fishing wharf to be completely resolved by 2025
Da Nang targets to completely resolve the environmental pollution hotspot at Tho Quang fishing wharf by 2025. After nearly 2 years of implementing solutions to deal with environmental pollution here, environmental pollution in this area is being handled very methodically and the 2025 goal is likely to be quite within the reach, said Mr. Vo Nguyen Chuong, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and the Environment.

In 2022, specific targets focus on three main groups of issues: solid waste management and environmental sanitation; wastewater treatment and improvement of lock surface water quality; treatment of odours and emissions.
Garbage collected at the water surface and along embankments around the wharf from February 12, 2021 to March 5, 2022 was more than 1,100 tonnes, an average of 2.7 tonnes/day.
In addition, roads around the wharf are regularly cleaned for environmental sanitation and urban beauty.
Also noticeably, the city has attached importance to developing basic infrastructure for environmental protection at the wharf through an array of projects such as Phase 1 of the Son Tra wastewater treatment station with a design capacity of 25,500m3/day, the project to improve the water environment in the east in which Phase 2 of the Son Tra wastewater treatment station with a capacity of 30,000m3/day is a part, the sub-project of dredging at the wharf, the improvement of the wastewater collection system along Van Don route, the upgrading and expanding of the wharf with a total investment of about VND1,000 billion.

In order to minimise odours within the wharf and the wholesale market nearby, the wharf’s authority has increased daily cleanups, the spraying of chemicals to deodorize and the classification of daily-discharged seafood waste for proper treatment.
Waste sources discharged from processing facilities in the Tho Quang Seafood Service Industrial Zone, its infrastructure management unit is strengthening the monitoring and detection of unpleasant odours, requiring businesses to ensure take treatment solutions.
In 2021 alone, through surprise inspections, functional local agencies have detected and levied VND208 million in fines on 66 cases of environmental violation.
Da Nang is oriented to become one of the five major fisheries centres in Viet Nam, so it is necessary to continue to propose solutions in the future. It is hoped that, by 2025, environmental pollution in the wharf will have been basically handled.
