As reported, at the beginning of February, 2022, through a social network, a female victim living in Thanh Khe Tay Ward, Thanh Khe District transferred an amount of nearly VND150 million to a stranger for the purchase of 2,700 COVID-19 rapid test kits.
However, upon the reception of the money from the Da Nang woman, this ‘trader’ cut off all contact channels with her.
On March 12, through investigations, the Thanh Khe District Police identified that Dang Duc Trong was the perpetrator of a scam selling bogus COVID-19 quick test kits to illegally appropriate property, and immediately arrested him.
Finally, Trong pleaded guilty. He said, due to debt and lack of money for personal spendings, he created a virtual facebook account to post fake information about selling cheap COVID-19 quick test kits to fraudulently appropriate property.
In order to encourage the victim to make the money transfer to him, Trong sent the victim photos of the on-progress delivery of three boxes of masks for ‘confirmation’.
Also with the above-mentioned trick, Trong cheated a young man in Ha Noi city out of more than VND100 million.
The case is still under further investigation.
