On Wednesday, the Da Nang Traffic Safety Committee held a meeting to review its tasks in the first quarter of the year, as well as deployed some tasks for the second quarter.

During the meeting, the committee required local functional sectors to continue effectively implementing the plans, programmes and directives issued by the Prime Minister and the National Traffic Safety Committee.

Efforts will be made to ensure traffic safety and security in 2022 in association with the implementation of the '5 No's, 3 Yes's' and 'City of 4 Safe Programmes' campaigns.

Besides, heed will be on publicising the law on traffic order and safety in various and rich forms, especially the Law on Prevention and Control of Harms of Liquor and Beer Abuse.

The focus will be on taking effective measures to ensure traffic safety and security over the upcoming public holidays for the National Reunification Day (30 April) and International Labour Day (1 May), and the national senior high school graduation exam 2022.

Street patrols will be increased in a bid to promptly detect and handle the violations of traffic laws and criminal cases during the public holidays. Police officers will be on duty at the busiest intersections to control road traffic flows during peak hours, and during special events.

Strict punishment will be imposed on people who violate traffic safety regulations, especially those are driving with alcohol content exceeding the permitted level.

According to a report released by the Da Nang Traffic Safety Committee, traffic police in the city detected and handled 13,088 violations of traffic laws and criminal cases in the first quarter of this year, a decrease of 15.6% compared to the same period last year. During that period, a total of 19 road traffic accidents were reported in the city, killing 14 people and injuring 13 others.
