More than 40,000 military veterans residing in residential areas across the city have always pioneered in study promotion and talent encouragement activities heading towards building a learning society and implementing the policy of lifelong learning.

In the 2017 - 2022 period, the entire association mobilised more than VND1.5 billion to support 3,365 students living in difficult circumstances.

In Da Nang, 100% of the total war veterans voluntarily participate in study promotion associations, of whom 147 are actively engaged in study promotion organisations recording many excellent achievements.

Typically, the Doan Mau Hoe Club in My An Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District has continuously worked on study promotion programmes and activities, mobilising billions of VND to support students living in difficult circumstances.

Currently, despite being nearly 90 years old, Mr. Hoe still goes back and forth to enthusiastically join the highly-meaningful cause of developing talents.

Meanwhile, a study promotion club run by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Chairman of the Veterans’ Association of Hoa Khe Ward, Thanh Khe District usually partners with other relevant units to raise more than VND800 million for poor yet studious students, and timely encourages children who dropped out of school to resume their academic journeys.

Every year, students who are admitted to public universities are awarded VND500,000 each by the club.

In particular, the Veterans’ Association of An Hai Bac Ward, Son Tra District annually actively provide publicly-donated bicycles, clothes and learning tools for students and children of poor and disadvantaged households throughout the ward.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, this association mobilised funds to provide computers, tablets, and smartphones for 31 disadvantaged students in a bid to help them maintain online learning in the face of the suspension of face-to-face schooling in line with the pandemic curbs.

Since 2018, the municipal Veterans’ Association has mobilised funds for granting long-term sponsorship for 11 poor students and its members' children at VND5 million/child/year.

Every year, all of the 11 children achieve good academic results, accompanied with good ethical behaviours.

For example, Nguyen Hoang Anh Hong, who is son of veteran Nguyen Van Hung in Hoa Khe Ward, Thanh Khe District, after 4 years of having received great support from the municipal Veterans’ Association, has graduated from the Da Nang University of Education. She is now a teacher of the English language, firmly leading the family to overcome difficulties and escape poverty.

During my academic years at the university, I received a total of VND 20 million in aid from the municipal Veterans’ Association. Such valuable support significantly helped reduce my worries about tuition fees, so I felt secure with peace of mind to pursue my academic dreams”, eagerly said Hong expressed.

In another case, Tran Thi Lan Vy whose father is a veteran dwelling in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District, a needy female student at the Da Nang University of Economics, is granted VND5 million during her academic years.

With sparkling eyes of hope, Vy shared: “The tertiary tuition support and great encouragement I received from the municipal Veterans’ Association motivated me to strive to go ahead with my studies. I always try to study well so that upon graduation it may be easier for me to find a good job and improve my family’s income.

In the coming time, Veterans’ Associations at all levels will promote study promotion and talent encouragement activities at their residence as well as at work with the aim of increasing the number of students with long-term sponsorship.

Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal Veterans’ Association Bui Chi Loan said importance will be attached to offering package sponsorship from university enrollment until graduation for students with difficult circumstances, in order to help them firmly step on the path of education.
