Tornado threat prompts warnings in sea areas and Central Viet Nam

Friday into Saturday, the North of the East Sea (including waters of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands) and the Middle of the East Sea will see northeast winds at level 6, and gustiness of levels 7 to 8, and experience rough seas with waves as high as 2m -4m due to weakening cold flow introduced by a weakening continental high, according to Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The offshore areas stretching from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, including Da Nang, and South of the East Sea, including the waters of the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands, could see northeast winds at levels 5 to 6, and the gusts reaching levels 7 to 8, as well as experience rough seas with waves as high as 2m-4m.

The Middle and South of the East Sea, including the waters of the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands, the offshore areas stretching from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, including Da Nang, could see showers and thunderstorms under the influence of a low pressure trough. These areas could be under a level 2 risk as the national forecasters have issued warnings of weather hazards such as tornadoes and high winds.

On Friday, cloudy skies are expected in the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue while rains are predicted during the night hours. Easterly and Northeast winds at levels 2 to 3 may reach the region. Maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to hover around 28-31 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperature will be in the range of 20-23 degrees Celsius.

Sunshine is forecast for the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan, and there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon and night hours in some places. Thunderstorms can produce strong winds, lightning, hail and tornadoes, the national forecasters warned. North and Northeast winds at levels 2 to 3 may reach these areas. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 21 to 24 degrees Celsius and highs of 28 to 31 degrees Celsius, even above 31 degrees Celsius in some places.

Today expects the sky to remain mostly cloudy across Central Highlands with the chance of showers during late afternoon and night hours in some places. Maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around 28-31 degrees Celsius and 18-21 degrees Celsius.

There are also warnings of thunderstorms, lightning strikes, high winds, tornadoes and hail in Central Highlands.
