In her remarks at the Childhood Festival 2022 held in Da Nang on Sunday, municipal People's Committee Vice Chairwoman Ngo Thi Kim Yen emphasised the need for the whole political system and society to join hands to act specific actions in order to promote the material and spiritual development of children, especially those living under special circumstances, in a comprehensive manner.

Vice Chairwoman Yen happily said that recent years have seen a dramatic increase in awareness of authorities at grass-roots level, sectors, families and social communities about child protection, care and education.

City leaders, along with Party committees, authorities and unions at all levels, have always paid attention to enhancing the quality of the spiritual and material lives of children with the spirit of giving children the best.

They also hoped that the children would try their best to overcome their current difficulties to gain good academic results as well as deserve the titles of good children, good pupils and Uncle Ho's good grandchildren.

Mrs. Yen informed that, on the occasion of the International Children's Day (June 1) and the Action Month for Children 2022 during June, the municipal People's Committee donated VND100 million to the city’s Association for Charities and Children's Rights Protection with the aim of helping this organisation to carry out more meaningful child protection and care activities in the coming time.

Co-organised by the Da Nang Association of Charities and Children's Rights Protection and the city’s Youth Union, the 4th Childhood Festival took ‘What I want to say’ as its theme.

The purpose of the event was to convey a message of appealing for joint efforts to protect children, and speak up to prevent and combat child abuse and violence.

The festival featured a wide range of attractive activities, including presentations on child abuse prevention and combating, drawing and letter writing competitions, a ‘Ringing the golden bell’ contest, camping, a publicity festival, flashmob performances, and folk games.

Also at the festival, the organisers awarded 100 scholarships, valued at VND1 million each, to disadvantaged children in the city, and presented 300 gifts to children in the build up to the International Children's Day.

Additionally, 10 support gifts were given to orphans under the ‘Godmother’ programme for orphans sponsored by the city's Association of Charity and Children's Rights Protection. Accordingly, each orphan will receive VND500,000/month between 2022 and 2027.
