Central Viet Nam is blazing under the scorching sun, bringing the parts from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, including Da Nang, under the extreme heatwave alert, according to Viet Nam’s National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The maximum temperature in the warning areas is expected to touch 34-36 degree Celsius, and even above 36 degree Celsius at isolated places. Lowest humidity is likely to record at 55-65 per cent.

The combined effects of hot and low humidity conditions along with high winds blowing from the southwest pose an increased fire or explosion risk in residential areas in North Central Coast and Mid- Central region. In addition, these areas will see the greatest increase in wildfire risk in Central Viet Nam due to the hot and dry weather, the national forecasters have warned.

The national weather service has predicted the prevailing heatwave conditions in the warning areas to continue till June 6.

Heatwaves can result in severe dehydration and a drop in blood pressure when the body is exposed to soaring temperatures for a prolonged period. Heatwaves, or any extreme weather conditions, affect kids and older adults severely. Therefore, health experts strongly advise these people to take proper precautions before they venture out in the sun.

The first important thing to remember is to stay hydrated, which means that people have to drink plenty of fluids, and they shouldn’t wait until they are thirsty to take those drinks. The other precautions include staying indoors where the temperature is cooler, avoiding excessive physical activity in a hot environment, limiting outdoor activities to when it's coolest, such as morning and evening hours.

Sunshine is forecast for Da Nang on Tuesday with the chance of showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon and night hours at isolated localitions. The maximum temperature on Tuesday is likely to hover around 35- 36 degrees Celsius, and heat wave has been forecast.

The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 34 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, with no rain in the forecast for Da Nang.

Intense heat is set to roast the city Thursday into next Monday, June 6 with maximum temperatures approaching 37 degrees Celsius.
