Learn-to-swim movement launched for drowning prevention
The Da Nang University of Physical Education and Sports, the Ministry of Education and Training has launched a movement to learn to swim safely, prevent drowning and inaugurate the National Swimming Tournament 2022 for High School Students.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Ngo Thi Minh said that, in Viet Nam, an average of 2,000 children and students die from drowning every year, the highest rate compared to other countries in Southeast Asia, 8 times higher than developed countries.
In the first 5 months of 2022, there were 38 drowning cases that killed 113 children and students.
Deputy Minister Ngo Thi Minh, therefore, suggested that the municipal/ provincial departments of Education and Training and educational institutions further promote drowning prevention and control and the swimming teaching movement, attracting more public attention and stirring up the responsibility of the whole society for the safe life for the children.
The National Swimming Tournament 2022 for High School Students is running from June 8 to 13, attracting the participation of 700 student athletes from 26 provinces and cities across the country.
The tournament is being held in the format of individual and relay races according to the prescribed age groups.
The Ministry of Education and Training will issue certificates to all athletes participating in the tournament and certificates of achievements to outstanding individual athletes who are ranked first, second and third.
In addition, the organisers will award medals and emulation flags to individuals and groups participating in the tournament.
