"Working for the peace of people is my happiness"
“Many of my shifts fall into nighttime, and cases that happen at that time are often complicated. Moreover, staying up at night makes me stressed but I love my job, especially when it comes to bringing peace to people," said Mr Ngo Linh Em, Standing Militia Squad Leader of Nai Hien Dong Ward, Son Tra District.

The 26-year-old man Ngo Linh Em was born and raised in a difficult family with a father working in the sea. “No matter how miserable, you have to be determined to study.” That was what his father often said to him after long sea trips.
Having graduated from high school, Linh Em volunteered for 2 years of military service and then returned to his hometown to join the militia of Nai Hien Dong Ward. “No matter which unit I am in, I just want to live a meaningful life and contribute to keeping people's peace. That is my happiness. In the locality, I went through a reserve officer training course and received the task of squad leader in charge of managing a standing militia squad," Linh Em expressed.
Few people know that the standing militiamen not only work during office hours but also spend hundreds of sleepless nights patrolling the roads and alleys to keep people sleeping peacefully. On the weekly basis, Linh Em has 3 to 4 nights coordinating with the ward police force to patrol, control and maintain security for people.
Keeping security at night has always required the person on duty to be flexible, skilful, and decisive to be able to complete tasks and solve complex problems such as trading on the roadside, gathering or racing illegally. One of the most important tasks is to choose a suitable method to address violations so that violators comply with the law instead of being coerced to sanction.
During the two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, Linh Em and his teammates were always on the front lines around the clock to do propaganda tasks, support the health sector in tracing confirmed cases, controlling the pandemic in blockaded apartment buildings, residential areas, and wet markets. On top of that, he was with departments, agencies and organizations to supply hundreds of tons of food for the people regardless of difficulties and struggles.
Over 3 years of service, Standing Militia Squad Leader Ngo Linh Em has always volunteered to take the lead in all activities of the unit and the locality. He has commanded and operated the squad to complete all duties in a great manner.
“My work is hard and time-consuming so I just can spend a little time for my small family. On a stormy day, I just can instruct my wife and parents to prop up the house and ensure safety because I have to go on duty. For me, being able to do something to keep people's peace is my happiness," Linh Em shared.
