Residing in Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District, Da Nang, the disabled single mother Pham Thi Hien and her two daughters are great examples of overcoming adversity in life.

Mrs. Hien was born a normal child in 1967, but when she was 12 her back raised a kind of hump and bent down, forcing her to quit studying. After ineffective medical treatment while her family was poverty-stricken, she had to help her parents in farming and raise her small siblings. When she was a teenager, Hien decided to pursue a seamstress career and opened a tailor shop at home to earn a living. In her 30s, Hien gave birth to two lovely daughters.

Everyday, the disabled single mother diligently sewed and made clothes to earn money for raising her children, sometimes she had to work until midnight. Commiserating with their mother, Hien’s two daughters tried their best to study well and assiduously did the house chores and both of them passed their university entrance exams.

After graduating from the Da Nang University of Economics, Hien’s oldest daughter Pham Thi Thu Trang is now working for the Da Nang -based Song Han Electricity Company.

Meanwhile, her younger daughter Pham Hoa Nhi won numerous awards in high school and university. During her studies at the Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Hoa Nhi won two first prizes in Geography at municipal level exams and a first prize at a national- level exam. Moreover, Nhi brought home two gold medals from the 30 April Olympics and received the “Best student of school” title in 2017-2018 school year.

While studying at the Saigon International University, Hoa Nhi won the first prize at the 2020 Scientific research for Students and several other awards and she frequently gained top marks in her faculty. In addition, she received the school's biggest scholarship award worth nearly VND 300 million.

When she was a sophomore, Hoa Nhi was elected to the Executive Board of the university’s Start-up Club. Being good at English and social sciences, Hoa Nhi excellently performed communicating works of the club, and together with the Board’s members to hold the Hultz Prize with the participation of 16 teams.

Moreover, Hoa Nhi are active in doing charity works as she are willing to lend a helping hand to the poor. Nhi through using a part of her scholarship to support the disabled and vulnerable people along with those in need..

In the past, Pham Thi Hien received an annual allowance from the municipal Disabled People Association. However, Hien voluntarily gave her allowance to others who need it.
