Da Nang launches environmental sanitation peak, killing larvae for dengue fever prevention

On Sunday, following appeals made by the Da Nang government, authorities at local level simultaneously encouraged thousands of local people to carry out activities to dengue fever prevention and control.

Accordingly, the Son Tra District administrtion launched a campaign to kill mosquito larvae.

It is known that, since the beginning of 2022, in Son Tra District, there have been 209 cases of dengue fever, mainly in Tho Quang, An Hai Bac, Nai Hien Dong wards and 15 small outbreaks. The risk of disease outbreak on a large scale is very high, especially in the coming months of the rainy season, if no measures are implemented urgently and drastically.

Families in the wards at high risk of dengue fever are advised to kill larvae with a frequency of once a week.

Residential areas with high index of mosquitoes and larvae are recommended to launch larvae killing every 2 weeks.

In a similar vein, 13 wards and departments, associations and unions in Hai Chau District also launched a peak campaign to kill larvae to prevent dengue fever  from July 17 - 31.

The sanination are conducted in vacant land plots, households, inns, construction sites, riverside and coastal areas, offices, schools and other at-risk locations throughout Hai Chau District.

Dengue fever is an acute infectious disease caused by the dengue virus. Dengue is transmitted by mosquitoes that transmit the dengue virus from an infected person to a healthy person.

The most effective dengue fever prevention measures are emptying containers of stagnant water, flipping down all containers, eating carefully-cooked food and sanitising the environment.

Also on the same day, the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches kicked off clean up the environment at beaches and along Nguyen Tat Thanh, Hoang Sa, Vo Nguyen Giap, Truong Sa and Truong Sa coastal streets. Sa with the theme “Wake up with the blue sea”, attracting the participation of more than 700 Youth Union members, young people from universities and volunteer associations and groups across the city.

At the launching ceremony, the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches introduced 3R identification labels (reduce, reuse, recycle) to promote solid waste classification at source, fight against plastic waste and join hands to protect the environment.
