Da Nang's poor children receive active support from local Women Union
In response to the "Godmothers programme" launched by the Viet Nam’s Women Union, Da Nang’s Women Union and its chapters at all levels have been involved in caring for poor children, especially children who have been orphaned due to COVID-19.

Lieutenant colonel Ha Thi Hong Phuong, the chairwoman of Da Nang Police’s Women Union Chapter remarked that eleven affiliated units have taken care of nine grieving children. In addition, district-level affiliated units have taken care of eight destitue children.
Under the 'Godmothers programme' which has been implemented in the 2022-2026 period, annual allowances of VND 6 million have been given to needy children. The donated money has come from the “Fund for the Poor” and philanthropists inside and outside the city. Apart from supporting the children financially, on special occasions such as Tet holiday and Children’s Day, the Union’ members will visit and give them learning tools and uniforms as gifts”, said Lieutenant colonel Ha Thi Hong Phuong.
After his father died of COVID-19, Bui Thai Anh Khoa, 14, from Thank Khe District's Tam Thuan Ward, and his mother rely solely on peddling for income. Firefight and Rescue Division chapter of the Da Nang’s Women Union has helped him in his studying.
Lieutenant colonel Vo Thi Lan Anh, the chairwoman of the chapter of Da Nang Firefight and Rescue Division said the Union gave Khoa financial support of VND 3 million for the first half of 2022, the second support is expected to be given at the end of June.
Vo Le Thuy Tien, 12, residing in Hoa Vang District's Hoa Ninh Commue also suffers misfortunes in her life. Tien’s mother passed away prematurely while her father works far away so she has to live with her grandparents but the familly is a poor household. The Women Union chapter of the Da Nang Police Department and the chapter of the Department’s Party and Politics Work Division are taking care of her. In addition, members of the Union also guide her how to take care of herself and do house chores.
Le Thi Khanh Ngoc, 13, residing in Hai Chau District's Binh Hien Ward suffers hardship when her father died of severe illness and the family is poverty-stricken. The Women Union chapter of the Da Nang Police Department supports Ngoc VND 6 million a year. Colonel Dang Thi Thanh Tra, the chairwoman of the chapter, said that they would continue to raise funds from philanthropists to ensure that Khanh Ngoc could go to school with no worries.
Lieutenant colonel Ha Thi Hong Phuong said that after completing the Godmothers programme of the 2022-2026 period, the municipal Police’s Women Union chapter at all levels would continue to raise funds for taking care of these children until they are 18 years old, guide them on life skills and studying to help them have a better future.
