Enhancing efficiency of people-to-people diplomacy

Between 2016 and 2020, about 2,500 overseas Vietnamese temporarily resided in Da Nang. Currently, about 300 and 43 overseas Vietnamese are residing temporarily and permanently in the city respectively.

According to preliminary statistics, the city is now home to about 61 enterprises with investment capital flows channeled from overseas Vietnamese, mainly Vietnamese expats from the US, France, Canada, Australia, Ukraine and Japan with origins in Quang Nam and Da Nang.

During the 5-year period, overseas remittances to the city hit US$100 - 170 million.

At present, 75,887 foreign expats temporarily reside in Da Nang, the majority of them come from South Korea, Japan, the US and China.

As of June 15, 2022, the city had attracted a total of 926 valid FDI projects with a total registered capital of US$3,860 billion.

Till date, the coastal central city of Da Nang has established cooperative relations with 46 localities of 21 countries and territories worldwide, and signed 95 cooperation agreements.

Bilateral cooperation between Da Nang and foreign localities is mainly through high-ranking delegation, trade, investment, cultural and sports, education and tourism exchange activities.

The figures were released by the municipal Fatherland Front Committee at its Monday working session in the city with a delegation of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee, led by its Vice President Phung Khanh Tai.

Concluding at the meeting, Vice President Phung Khanh Tai highly appreciated outstanding achievements about people-to-people diplomacy and overseas Vietnamese-related work made by the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee over recent years.

He took the opportunity to ask the municipal Fatherland Front Committee to enhance its awareness of people-to-people diplomacy, plus coordinate with the local Department of Foreign Affairs to build close relationships with overseas Vietnamese.
