Extreme heat warning issued for Central Viet Nam as mercury likely to hit over 39 degrees Celcius in some places on Wednesday

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Central Viet Nam, in effect from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Temperatures are expected to soar above 39 degrees Celcius on Wednesday in some places of the region with forecasters warning people to stay indoors and drink plenty of fluids.

Residents in most of Central Viet Nam, including Da Nang, will be affected by combination of heat advisories, excessive heat warnings and excessive heat watches through Wednesday.

The maximum temperature in the region is expected to touch 35-38 degree Celsius, and even above 39 degree Celsius at isolated locations. Temperatures are expected to exceed 35 degrees Celsius between 11:00am and 5:00pm.

Lowest humidity is likely to record at 50-65 per cent. 

On Thursday, the high temperatures are expected to remain in the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien –Hue while the remaining parts of the region, including Da Nang, will experience milder conditions.

On Wednesday, severe heatwave condition is likely to prevail over the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue while showers and thunderstorms are predicted at isolated places during the late afternoon and night hours.  Maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to hover around 34-37 degrees Celsius, even above 38 degrees Celsius in some places while minimum temperature will be in the range of 27-30 degrees Celsius.

Extreme heat put residents in the northern parts of the region from Da Nang to Binh Thuan under heat warnings and advisories on Wednesday as mercury is expected to touch 34-37 degree Celsius, and even above 37 degree Celsius at isolated locations. There is a chance for showers and thunderstorms for late afternoon and night hours at isolated places. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 26 to 29 degrees Celsius.

Today, the best chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms will likely at isolated locations in Central Highlands during late afternoon and evening hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around 28-31 degrees Celsius, and even above 31 degree Celsius in some places, and 21-24 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds in the warning areas.
