Among the main causes leading to traffic accidents recently were violations of alcohol concentration limits and operating overloaded vehicles. To creak down on these matters, Da Nang’s functional forces are synchronously and regularly deploying measures against these violations of deep concern to the general public.

According to the Da Nang traffic police, over the past time, this law enforcement force has detected nearly 41,000 violation cases, 34,500 of which faced a total of nearly VND48 billion in fines that will be collected to the State budget.

The total violations as aforementioned included 2,021 drunk driving, 5,494 speed limit exceeding and 700 cases of transporting bulky, overloaded and oversized goods.

Particularly, from June 20 to August 20, the city's traffic police force sanctioned administrative fines worth VND8.64 billion on 5,874 cases, whilst violating drivers had their driving licenses temporarily revoked.

Most recently, on the evening of September 1, the Hai Chau District Traffic Police Team set up a checkpoint at the junction of Thang Long and Vu Trong Phung streets and discovered a motorbike carrying 3 people that violated the regulation on the passenger number limit. In a prompt fashion, the police pulled over the motorbike for an administrative inspection and check his blood alcohol content (BAC). His BAC measured 0.357 milligrams/1 liter of breathing air.

The functional force then made a sanctioning record for the act of driving a vehicle on the road with an alcohol concentration in the breath exceeding 0.25 milligrams to 0.4 milligrams per 1 liter of breathing air.

The violator suffered a fine of VND4.5 million and had his driving license suspended for 17 months for having broken regulations on drink-driving.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Pham Hong Hai, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Division of the Da Nang Police Department, his agency has also focused on regulating the traffic flow at key and complex intersections and large projects under construction in the city at peak hours in a bid to prevent traffic jams.

In the coming time, the competent force will keep on publicising the road traffic law among road users, especially cracking down on exceeding alcohol concentration and speed limits, trunk expansion, carrying overloaded and oversized cargo and arbitrarily mortifying vehicles.

Also, more measures will be take to resolve the "black spots" that are traffic accidents-prone sites.
