Organizing a gift exchange using recycled products or things found in home, beach cleanups, calling on young people to use resuable bamboo straws and coconut shell drinking cups are among practical activities launched by the ‘PCT Green Earth’ Club under the Youth Union Organisation of the Phan Chau Trinh Senior High School  located in Hai Chau District, Da Nang. The intention is to spread school pupils about green lifestyles and environmental protection.

Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference for the Environment

Mr Truong Bao Han, the Chairman of the ‘PCT Green Earth’ Club said that the club was founded in 2019 with the aim of raising awareness about environmental issues among young people, as well as engaging young people in meaningful community projects to keep the environment green, clean and beautiful.

Da Nang’s beaches are always packed with tourists during the summer as this season is the best time to enjoy the city’s beaches. The majority of tourists are aware of their individual responsibility for maintaining a clean and hygienic environment but a part of them do not put their trash in the right place. As a result, members of the "PCT Green Earth" club have got involved in cleaning beaches as part of the club’s eco-friendly activities.

The club’s members have joined hands with local residents to collect trash at the Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach. The Club has also launched a campaign to welcome in a new school year which carried its theme of ‘Back to school’ with the organisation of exchanging used batteries for planting seeds in a bid to contribute to a greener and cleaner environment. Besides, the club encourged its members along with school pupils across the city to use paper textbook covers instead of plastic ones. Small but practical actions will help reduce non-biodegradable waste and make our life greener.

Upholding the responsibility of school pupils to protect the environment

In the age of technology, the phrase "environmental protection" is no strange to many people. The "PCT Green Earth" Club has worked with the Youth Union Organisation of Hai Chau 1 Ward, Hai Chau District to organise the "Green Field Workshop" to present an overview of current status of environmental pollution in Da Nang as well as spread young people across the city green lifestyle and cultivate environmental awareness in schools.

It can be seen that practical activities launched by the "PCT Green Earth" club will help make gradual changes in environmental perception among school pupils and uphold their responsibility to create a clean and healthy living environment in the city, thereby contributing to realising the city’s goal of ‘Building Da Nang into an environmentally-friendly city’ in the coming years.
