Downgrade for tropical depression forecast Monday afternoon, more wet weather forecast for Thanh Hoa- Phu Yen, including Da Nang

Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) says the new tropical depression which entered the East Sea on Sunday morning is expected to weaken to a remnant low at 1:00pm on Monday, October 24, 2022.

The remnant's maximum sustained winds Monday are below level 6.

NCHMF predicts moderate to heavy rain with localised very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm chance over the parts from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, including Da Nang, from Monday through Wednesday, October 26, due to the possible formation of an upper-level disturbance. The total rainfall amount will be 70mm to 150mm in common in these areas while more than 200mm of rain could fall in some places.

There are also warnings of thunderstorms, lightning strikes, high winds, tornadoes and hail in these areas. Warning for level 1 natural hazard risk, including heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning is also issued for these areas. The advisory urges residents to ‘be aware’ of inclement weather. Local residents are advised to get ready for such weather conditions in an attempt to reduce the risk of possible damages.

Under these conditions, North East Sea (including the waters of the Hoang Sa Archipelago) will see northeast winds at level 6, sometimes at level 7, and gustiness of up to level 8, as well as experience rough sea with waves as high as 2m-4 m during Monday. Warning for northeast winds at levels 6 to 7, and the gustiness of up to levels 8 to 9, along with rough sea with ​​waves as high as 3m-5m is issued to North East Sea (including the waters of the Hoang Sa Archipelago) during Tuesday. NCHMF also issues a weather warning for strong winds and high waves to all vessels operating at these areas.

Rainfall activity will come down in the parts from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, including Da Nang, from Thursday, October 27but it will likely to return to these areas from Sunday, October 30. Showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected in these areas, with very heavy rain likely in some places from Sunday into Monday, October 31.
