Hai Van 2 road tunnel re-opens to traffic after heavy flooding
Due to heavy rain and flash floods spilling down from the Hai Van mountain, causing traffic insecurity. On Friday evening, functional forces closed the Hai Van No.2 road tunnel for safety reason. At 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, functional forces re-opened the Hai Van No.2 tunnel whereas the parallel Hai Van No. 1 tunnel was still congested, said the Hai Van Tunnel Management and Exploitation One Member Company Limited (Hamadeco).

Previously, at 8:40p.m, flash floods overflowed from the Hai Van mountain in front of the tunnel entrance and the approach roads No. 1 and 2 in the south with a large flow of water, flowing strongly in front of the southern tunnel, causing unsafe traffic.
Immediately after the flash flood, Hamadeco closed the tunnel and sent a rescue force to guard at the north entrance to the tunnels. At the same time, the functional forces guided vehicles travelling on National Highway 1A, moving through La Son - Tuy Loan Expressway.

However, at midnight, the Mui Trau road tunnel on the La Son - Tuy Loan Expressway which runs through Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District was also blocked.
The north of Mui Trau tunnel in Thua Thien Hue Province also got stuck into the same trouble.
Currently, vehicles can travell through tunnel No. 2 as normal under guidance of the traffic police. Meanwhile, Hamadeco is trying to handle the congestion of tunnel No. 1 as soon as possible.
