An individual monkey on Son Tra mountain, Da Nang has just been strangled to death by a big python reticulatus, said the Son Tra - Ngu Hanh Son inter-district Forest Protection Division belonging to the Da Nang Forest Protection Department on Monday.

As reported, at about 3:00pm on October 9, a wildlife preservation group on the Son Tra mountain was being on duty to find injured monkeys for treatment when they discovered the python reticulatus squeezing a macaca mulatta on the side of Le Van Luong Street.

Upon the reception of the news, the local rangers quickly arrived at the scene and assisted the group in rescuing the monkeys. However, due to being tightly wrapped by a large python, the monkey then died.

The python is nearly 5m long and weighs about 30kg. Currently, the functional forces have released it back into to the Son Tra mountain.

Previously, On September 17, a python reticulatus was also released back into the natural environment by the Inter-District Forest Protection Division of Son Tra - Ngu Hanh Son. This individual python, weighing 6kg, got lost in a residential group in Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District. Residents discovered it and reported the case to the functional forces for handling in line with the regulations.
