Storm Nesat downgraded back to tropical depression

Storm Nesat was downgraded back to a tropical depression on Wednesday morning as it moved westward at 10- 15 km per hour, according to Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

Forecast models indicate at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 19, the depression's centre was located near latitude 17°N and longitude 110°6'E, lied to northwest of the ​​Hoang Sa Islands. The area near the depression’s center experienced high winds at level 7, and gustiness of level 9.

The danger area in the East Sea around the tropical depression is located at latitude 15°5' N - 19°N and longitude 112° E. Warning for level 3 natural hazard risk is issued to the western part of ​​the North East Sea, the Southern part of the Gulf of Tonkin, and the offshore area stretching from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai.

At 10:00 am on Thursday, October 20, the depression will be centred near latitude 17°5'N and longitude 107°8'E , sit over the open waters off the Quang Binh - Thua Thien – Hue coast. The maximum sustained winds reaching level 6, and the gusts as high as level 8 will affect the area near the depression’s center. The depression is set to track west- northwest at about 10-15 km per hour. The danger area in the East Sea around the tropical depression will be located at latitude 15°5'N - 19°N and longitude 110°5'E. Warning for level 3 natural hazard risk is issued to the southern part of the Gulf of Tonkin, and the offshore area stretching from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai.

At 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, the depression's centre will be positioned near latitude 18°3'N and longitude 106°4'E,  sit over the open waters off the Nghe An - Quang Binh coast. The area near the depression’s center will see sustainable winds at level 6. The depression is expected to degenerate into a remnant low as it moves west- southwestward at about 15 km per hour. The danger area around the remnants of storm Nesat is located near latitude 15°5'N - 19°5'N and longitude 109°5'E. Warning for level 3 natural hazard risk is issued to the southern part of the Gulf of Tonkin, and the offshore area stretching from Quang Tri to Quang Nam.

Alerts for thunderstorms, strong winds at levels 7 to 8 while the maximum sustained winds reaching levels 9 to 10, the gusts as high as level 12 , and rough sea with waves as high as 5-7 m will affect the area near what’s left of Nesat. Warnings for strong winds at levels 6 to 7 and gusts of levels 8 to 9, rough sea with waves as high as 2.5-4.5m are issued to the Gulf of Tonkin, the offshore area stretching from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai (including Con Co and Ly Son islands).

The remnant low will continue to spin down as it moves further inland over the parts from Quang Binh to Thua Thien –Hue, and it has a small chance of bringing strong winds above level 6 to their coastal areas.
