With the goal of not letting students lack books, notebooks and school supplies due to recent unfavourable weather, the Da Nang Labour Federation has spent VND 1.1 billion worth of support on buying 3,495 sets of textbooks for students from Year 1 to 12 across the city in a bid to make a relief in such difficult times.

The donation recipients were those who had their textbooks damaged or lost due to the impacts of the recent storm No. 5. This was really a good deed showing the Da Nang agency’s enthusiasm to join hands with the whole community to help students in disaster-affected areas continue their academic journeys.

According to statistics from the Da Nang Department of Education and Training, during the flood triggered by the storm No. 5, thousands of students were upset with their damaged books and they were in a desperate need of timely support to make return to school as soon as possible.

Right after the flood, 5 schools in Hoa Vang and Lien Chieu districts could not organise face-to-face teaching for their students. Fully aware of the challenging fact, the municipal Labour Federation decided to provide financial support for the purchase of 3,495 sets of textbooks in donation for students, with priority given to children of workers and labourers.

In addition, the Da Nang Labour Federation supported 4 more sets of Braille books for students of the Da Nang Centre for Inclusive Education Development Support. Ms. Dinh Thi Thanh Ha, the Vice President of the Da Nang Labour Federation said that these books are an urgent support for students and teachers to stabilise teaching and learning processes. This agency has given funds to the purchase of books for heavily-affected localities such as Thanh Khe, Lien Chieu, Hoa Vang and Cam Le districts. “The city's Labour Federation will continue to support the education sector to overcome difficulties”, said Mrs. Ha.

According to the municipal Department of Education and Training, up to now, schools across the city have basically overcome the consequences after the storm No. 5 to ensure the safety of students at all academic levels.

Ms. Le Anh Dao, Principal of Hong Quang Primary School, said: “Given the timely and prompt support of the Da Nang Labour Federation as well as from philanthropists inside and outside the city, we are making an emergency material support for 200 students who were severely affected in the recent natural disasters”.

Upon receiving the new textbook for her children, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, a woman living in residential group 37 Da Son, Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District could not hide her emotion. “That night, all the furniture was swept away with floodwater. Now that there are new books, my children can go back to school with peace of mind. The teachers also paid visits and gave my children some clothes”, said Thuy.

The timely donation of textbooks to students in such a difficult situations affected by the storm No. 5 is a practical and humane activity, contributing to relieving the burden with students, thereby helping them gain more motivation to pursue their academic dreams and overcome any in-life challenges as well.
