Weakening tropical depression brings high waves to East Sea

According to the 9:00 am on Sunday update from Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), the new tropical depression is continuing to weaken after entering the East Sea on Sunday morning.

NCHMF said in a bulletin issued at 7:00am on Sunday, October 23, the system was centred near latitude 19°9'N and longitude 118°3'E, lied to East of the North East Sea, moving west-southwestward at about 15-20km per hour. The area near the depression’s center experienced maximum sustainable winds at level 6 (39-49 km per hour), and gustiness of up to level 8.

Additional weakening is expected over the next 24 to 48 hours while the system continues moving over the East Sea, NCHMF said.

The national weather service issues a warning for high waves under the influence of the tropical disturbance for the open waters off the Quang Binh – Quang Ngai coast, including Da Nang, with 1.5m–2.5m surge alert.
