With the right and timely decisions, Da Nang has affirmed the crucial role of culture in promoting its socio-economic development.

Successfully building brand of a cultural urban

Over the past 25 years, Da Nang has achieved lots of outstanding achievements in civilised urban values. This has been mainly attributed to the city leaders’ strategic vision and their spirit of daring to think, daring to do, Party and government-issued right and timely guidelines and policies, high sense of consensus among residents, and close monitoring and support of the central government.

During that 25-year period, Da Nang has more than 10 years of building and developing a cultural and civilided urban brand with such meaningful programmes as the ’5 No’s, 3 Yes’s’ programe and the 'City of 4 Safe Programmes'. Up to now, Da Nang has basically completed its goals, contributing to affirming its position on Viet Nam’s urban development map.

Notably, the city has taken synchronous actions to stop the harassment of tourists, as well as deal with itinerant beggars, street vendors and shoe shiners.

Implementing the target programme ‘No street beggars’, during the 2015 - 2021 period, 419 homeless people, 365 street beggars and 157 itinerant beggars were cared for at the city’s Social Protection Centre.

Many experts and scientists assert that Da Nang boasts great advantages to develop a core and coastal urban area with its own values, based on the available space and its central position in the heritage route in Central Viet Nam.

It is a human value that makes an important contribution to building a government for the people and for social welfare, especially taking care of people's lives, ensuring urban order, and minimising sidewalk encroachment. These seemingly simple things are the efforts and determination of the whole political system, and every citizen. In other words, people have become the central position in the city’s urban construction and development programmes.

Sustainable social security

Under the Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2019 adopted by the Politburo on building and developing Da Nang by 2030, with a vision towards 2045, Da Nang focuses on enhancing the effectiveness of social policies in the locality, especially humanitarian policies.

Also, attention is paid to ensuring that 100% of disadvantaged people have access to basic social services, and improving the quality of the city’s healthcare system.

During his meeting with the Standing Committee of the Da Nang Party Committee in June 2022, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated Da Nang's outstanding socio-economic development achievements.

The Prime Minister asked Da Nang to concretise the Party's stance on cultural development, and supplement the view of cultural development being on a par with politics, economy and society and closely associated with cultural development. This is also one of the important pillars in the city’s development orientation for the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
