Da Nang's young people volunteer for sake of the community

Young people in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, Lien Chieu District are getting actively involved in volunteer activities for the sake of the community under the motto of ‘Young people are ready to lend a helping hand to their community’, contributing to ensuring the effective implementation of Da Nang’s social welfare policy.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An, the Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union Organisation of Hoa Khanh Nam Ward, said that highlights of the Organisation are social welfare activities with a focus on supporting poor and disadvantged teenagers, young adults, along children and needy people.

"Volunteer activities of the Hoa Khanh Nam Ward Youth Union Organisation contribute to educate youth union members and young people, promote useful and beautiful useful lifestyle among them, as well as affirm their significant role in society and their community", Ms. An remarked.

In particular, 80 members of the Hoa Khanh Nam Ward Youth Union Organization joined a charity program to deliver free 700 portions of porridge to poor patients who are under treatment at the Da Nang Oncology Hospital.

Ho Thi Phuong Trang, a youth union member, said that youth union members put their love in the bowls of hot porridge given to poor patients in a bid to help them get through the day with a nutritious meal that they have the strength to fight and continue to move forward.

Furthermore, in its efforts to help local residents repair free of charge their severely damaged motorbikes during the historic flood triggered by heavy rains on October 14, the Hoa Khanh Nam Ward Youth Union Organization coordinated with its counterpart from the Da Nang College of Food Industry along with motorbike repairmen from Quang Nam Province to set up 2 motorbike repair stations. In addition, youth union members were deployed across the ward to help local resdents to clean their houses after flooding.

In addition, the Hoa Khanh Nam Ward Youth Union Organization has worked with police and military personnel to create a peaceful school gate at some primary and junior high schools. The focus has been on guiding parents to park their vehicles in the right place while waiting for their chidren to leave school at the school gate in order to ensure absolute safety of them and their chidren along with other road users, develop traffic safety culture, and reduce traffic congestion.

Moreover, the Organisation has provided financial support to disadvantaged students to follow their academic aspirations despite economic hardships.

Mr Than Duc Minh, the Chairman of Hoa Khanh Nam Ward People's Committee, said that the Youth Union members are always ready to get involved in social activities to help those who need it regardless of natural disasters like storms, floods, or epidemics. They actively get involved in various charitable and social activities and leave a deep impression on local residents in difficult areas where they conduct their volunteer work thanks to their dedication and enthusiasm. Included are active involvement in Green Sunday campaigns, clearing public drainage systems, protecting the environment, and helping locals strengthen their homes during the rainy season.
