In the face of the illegal collection and sale of personal information through chip-based citizen ID cards raging with complicated developments in some localities, the Da Nang Police Department has requested relevant agencies to focus on raising public awareness for residents.

According to the Da Nang Police, citizen ID cards contains a QR code and an electronic chip, which is a storage point for many important personal information about identity and documents related to the owner. Therefore, just having this information, criminals using high technology can easily perform bad purposes violate the law such as conduct trading activities, exchange the owner's personal information to others; register to open online accounts to illegally appropriate accounts through the form of loans from banks, financial companies; make debt loans on the app; subscribe to a postpaid phone subscription for unlimited use, even create information from the owner on social networking sites such as facebook, zalo, tiktok... to send messages with the aim of borrowing money, transfer money to relatives and friends of the true owner in order to illegally appropriate property.

Along with that, online money lending applications now have simple procedures, so just a need to take a picture of citizen ID cards to be able to perform a loan contract. This procedure bypasses the verification of the owner, so it creates a loophole for the fraudster to try to get other people's personal information, take pictures and send them to these applications to borrow money and submit virtual tax code numbers.

In Da Nang, there have appeared a number of businesses taking advantage of the implementation of projects such as improving public health and the recruitment of freelancer models for photo shootings to take the photo of citizen ID cards without asking for any permission.

The Da Nang police recommend people to raise vigilance and proactively protect personal information on citizen ID cards.

Absolutely, they do not post, share photos and personal information on their ID cards on social networks and provide personal information for services in cyberspace that are not secure or have their cards rented and photographed by strangers without a clear purpose.

In case of loss of ID cards, it is necessary to go to the police office for re-issuance so as to avoid the case under which information from the lost cards is used to perform illegal civil transactions.
