Da Nang Oncology Hospital serves over 720,000 patients in 10-year journey

Addressing a recent celebration for 10th anniversary of the establishment of Da Nang Oncology Hospital Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ngo Thi Kim Yen evaluated high efforts and achievements made by the hospital’s leadership team in overcoming difficulties, having orientations and solutions for professional development in depth. In particular, the highlight is the efficiency of medical examination and treatment, constantly improving the quality of human resources, focusing on international cooperation.

These achievements have contributed to the overall progress of the health care sector and the city's social and welfare work. After 10 years of construction and development, the city's leaders have always accompanied the hospital to promptly remove difficulties and problems, develop infrastructure, equipment and machinery, and provide professional training for medical staff to meet the development needs.

Vice Chairwoman Yen suggested that the hospital’s staff focus on raising awareness about cancer prevention and early detection of cancer, deploying a modern, fully equipped cancer screening unit to early diagnose and detect cancer diseases,  improve professional quality, apply advanced techniques to diagnosis and treatment.

Furthermore, it is necessary to focus on synchronously, comprehensively and effectively implementing the basic contents of the cancer prevention and control strategy: disease prevention, early screening and diagnosis, and treatment and palliative care.

Put into operation on January 19, 2013, the hospital has a scale of 500 beds, contributing to creating favourable conditions for people in the city to get early diagnosis, timely treatment, reduce travel costs and relieve psychological fatigue as well as reduce the patient load for other hospitals.

After 10 years of establishment and operation, the hospital has served more than 720,000 out-patients and 213,000 in-patients, of whom more than 40,000 received surgery and more than 1,000 got timely emergency for their critical illnesses.

The hospital is fully equipped with many modern medical equipment such as: 3.0 Tesla magnetic resonance machine system, 128-slice CT machine, Spect-CT imaging system and digital high-frequency X-ray machines.

In particular, the introduction of equipment for radiation therapy such as multi-energy linear accelerators and high-dose pressure pressure radiation therapy systems have contributed to improving the quality of examination and treatment to ensure patient safety. Every year, the targets of medical examination and treatment increase gradually. The occupancy rate of hospital beds always reaches over 110%.

The hospital is capable of performing more than 2,600 technical services, of which many have been applied with high efficiency in treatment such as minimally invasive surgery in the treatment of gastrointestinal, urological, gynecological, pulmonary, thoracic patients; hematopoietic stem cell transplantation; variable dose radiation therapy.
