Bringing joy to poor students
The program to support bus tickets for poor students to return home to celebrate Tet has been implemented for many year by the Students’ Association of the University of Da Nang.
Dr. Do Le Hung Toan, the Chairman of the Students’ Association of the University of Da Nang, said that the program to give free bus tickets to students in difficult circumstances to return to their hometowns to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2023 has quickly received active support from organizations, businesses and individuals across the city after it was officially launched early December 2022.
In its efforts to promptly support poor students to return home to celebrate Tet, the Students’ Association of the University of Da Nang gave out 200 free bus tickets at a celebration event for the 73rd anniversary of Traditional Day of Vietnamese students which took place on the evening of January 4.
According to Dr. Do Le Hung Toan, the Students' Association of the University of Da Nang asked its chapters at member universities to identify all eligible students in order to ensure that the support given to them is substantive and effective.
Meaningful Tet gifts
A program of Love Spring and Sharing Tet is also being implemented across universities and junior colleges in the city with the aim of supporting poor students to return home to celebrate Tet. The Students’ Association of the Da Nang Commerce College is an example. It prioritizes giving free tickets to students in difficult circumstances who have achieved excellent study results, actively got involved in students’ movements, and came from elsewhere in Central Viet Nam and Central Highlands. So far, a combined total of 70 train and bus tickets have been given to students at a total cost of VND 14 million.
As part of the program of Love Spring, the Da Nang Vocational College has recently given nearly 200 free bus tickets to students in difficult circumstances to return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet.
Mr Ho Viet Ha, the Rector of Da Nang Vocational Junior College, said that providing free bus tickets for about 200 poor students is the annual activity of the school, and the funding for it is raised by the school’s teaching staff. "We hope that these tickets will be a meaningful Tet gift for students in difficult circumstances to help them return home to celebrate Tet with their families," said Mr. Ha.
In order to bring hundreds of free bus tickets to students for Tet, Youth Union Organizations of Da Nang-based universities and the Students Association of the University of Da Nang have made great efforts to call for funding from different sources, including donations from schools’ students.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thu, the program has a greater meaning as it aims to connect all Da Nang students to share love and provide mutual support, thereby creating motivation for the above-mentioned organizations to continue launching and expanding the program in the following years.
