Building Da Nang into a safe city from natural disasters
The Da Nang government has given a nod for the project on building Da Nang into a safe city from natural disasters in the 2022-2030 period, with a vision to 2045.
The purpose of the project is to proactively control and monitor natural disasters, adapt to climate change, minimise loss of life and property of locals and the State, and ensure the city’s disaster risk management capacity, thereby creating favourable conditions for promoting the city’s sustainable socio-economic development and ensuring its defence and security.
In particular, in the 2021-2030 period, the city strives to reduce the number of deaths due to subjective reasons in terms of natural disasters of equivalent intensity and scale that occurred in the 2010-2020 period.
The city will make every effort to ensure that 100% of the population in coastal districts will have permanent houses, and 100% of residents in flood-prone areas will be evacuated to safer places when it is heavy rain.
Also, 100% of governments at all levels, agencies, organisations and people will be fully informed about natural disasters, whilst 100% of the population in disaster-affected areas will be provided with training courses on basic knowledge and skills for natural disaster mitigation and control.
All natural disaster mitigation and control forces will be fully trained about necessary skills, knowledge and equipment, aiming to improve the efficiency of State management, and ensure the concentration of means and equipment for natural disaster mitigation and control and search and rescue activities.
During that period, forest coverage rate in the city is expected to reach 45%. The capacity for forecasting and warning of natural disasters will be invested, enhanced, and automated.
The database serving direction and administration will be formed in a synchronous, interconnected, and real-time direction. 100% of key and critical areas for natural disaster mitigation and control will be equipped with monitoring and surveillance systems.
