The Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment recently said that the dry season of 2023 is predicted to be a difficult year in terms of water resources for Da Nang and Quang Nam Province due to hot weather, saltwater intrusion and low rainfall.

Specifically, according to the year-term climate forecast report released by the Viet Nam's National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from April to June 2023, the total rainfall in Da Nang and Quang Nam Province is expected to lower than that of previous years by 5-10%. Meanwhile, the total rainfall from July to September 2023 tends to be lower than the average of many years in the same period.

The situation of drought and saltwater intrusion this year has appeared earlier and more intense when the salinity level recorded at 6,500mg/l on the Vinh Dien River in Quang Nam Province at February 16, 2023.

Therefore, the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment is cooperating with relevant agencies to develop plans to deal with the risk of severe drought, salinity intrusion and water shortages, aiming at ensuring adequate fresh water supply for the city in the upcoming dry season.
