The Da Nang government has given a nod for an action plan to implement Viet Nam’s population strategy to 2030.

The overall objective is to maintain a steady level of replacement fertility, bring the sex ratio at birth to the natural balance, make effective use of the golden population structure, adapt to the aging population, make reasonable population distribution and enhance population quality.

Specifically, the total fertility rate in the city is expected to stay at 2.2 children per woman by 2030.

The city will maintain the sex ratio at birth at a natural balance, striving to maintain the population structure by age at a reasonable level. The city’s sex ratio at birth will reach 107 boys per 100 girls by 2030.

The percentage of children under 15 years old will be about 22%, that of elderly people aged 65 and over will be 11%, and the overall dependency rate will be 49%.

Da Nang sets out targets that 95% of young men and women will receive pre-marital counseling and health check-ups by 2030, 90% of pregnant women will be screened for at least 4 out of the most common congenital diseases, and 90% of newborns will be screened for at least 5 out of the most common congenital diseases. The average life expectancy of local residents will be 76.7 years, of which the healthy life expectancy will be at least 70 years.

The municipal People's Committee has assigned the Department of Health to coordinate with relevant agencies to organise the implementation of the action plan citywide.
