Doing good deeds is not difficult, as long as we do our best, give our best no matter how difficult or arduous the work is. That is the thought engraved in the minds of many women living in rural areas in Hoa Phuoc Commune, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang. There, they have donated lots of rice, food, scholarships to financially-struggling households.

Poor people in Hoa Phuoc Commune, Hoa Vang District express their sincere affection when talking about Ms. Phan Thi Minh Nguyet, the Head of Women's Union in Nhon Tho 2 Village and Ms. Huynh Thi Ngan, 85, a resident in Giang Nam 2 Village.

With the meaningful and humane deeds and actions by the duo, they have brought hope to many people in difficult circumstances.

Over the past five years, every two days, Nguyet spends much time visiting, encouraging and helping the family of Ms. Vo Thi Trung, now 66, living in the same village. Trung's husband, Nguyen Van Phien, 68, has been bedridden due to the stroke impacts for more than 20 years.

Trung has suffered many health problems for the past eight years. The two elderly people only depend on their only son, 30-year-old Nguyen Van Hieu. But ironically, their son has just experienced a serious illness, being treated at the hospital for 3 months. With her compassion for this difficult case, Nguyet volunteered to do all of the household chores for Trung’s family. Besides, she donates fresh food and drinks to this household.

Nguyet said that the Nhon Tho 2 Village Women's Union chapter, on a monthly basis, grants VND300,000 and 30kg of rice from its savings fund to Trung’s family. In order to create favourable conditions for Trung's son to have a livelihood, Nguyet encouraged members of the Women's Union chapter to offer him jobs that is suitable for his health. Every day, Hieu collects wild medicinal plants around the village, washes, dried them in the sun and then sell them to earn money.

Nguyet said in emotion: “ I have done my best in calling for more public donations for Trung’s family and joining hands with others to sell domestic scraps for sales to raise funds for this needy family”.

Also in Hoa Phuoc Commune, Nguyen Tieu My from Tan Hanh Village, although currently working as a nurse at the Da Nang Family Hospital, her family situation is very pitiful. Less than one year, both her father and mother passed away due to serious illness.

Sympathising with that situation, Ms. Huynh Thi Ngan silently supported My and her siblings to join vocational training courses.

After My graduated from senior high school, Ngan once again introduced My a job at the Da Nang Family Hospital. My is just one of dozens of cases with difficult families who have overcome adversity thanks to the kindness of this virtuous woman.

The families of Pham Thi Rang and Nguyen Thi Luong living in Giang Nam 2 Village, cannot forget the day when Ngan personally came to their house to give VND 20 million in aid for each of them so that they can have enough money to do have their dilapidated houses repaired. This is the amount of money Ms. Ngan mobilised from her own children.

In another cases, the family of Mr. Tran Hoan, who lived in the same village, fell into a deadlock when and he himself has raised children for more than 30 years since his wife’s surprise death. Unfortunately, he now suffers from cancer.

Ngan donates essential food, sometimes with clothes, books and money, to Hoan’s grandchildren in a bid to help them pursue academic dreams. Recently, on the occasion of her birthday, Ngan donated VND 30 million from her savings to prepare 100 gifts in donation to the poor, teenagers and Agent Orange-affected children.

Talking about her meaningful acts targeting the poor, especially those in misfortune cases, gan confided: “A the age of 85, life has given me many things. The most precious thing is that I have a family, where all the children are filial and talented, contributing their talents and strength to the society in many different positions. For me, it's the grace of fate. Therefore, I vow to share that happiness with everyone, especially the poor”.
