Rain and cool air stays in forecast for Da Nang until next Tuesday

A weather warning remains in place for Da Nang as the city will continue experiencing cold and wet weather conditions for the next three days.

In a statement issued on Saturday afternoon, the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said that a cold front ushered a cold airmass into the Mid-central region on Saturday. The strong cold front will usher in rain, much cooler temperatures and gusty winds across the region.

The cold air is expected to pour southward into South Central Coast thereafter, the regional forecasters said.

By the coastal areas they will see high winds at levels 3 to 4, and gustiness of levels 5 to 6 and farther inland you could find gradually increasing northeasterly wind at level 3.

The Gulf of Tonkin could experience strong northeasterly winds at level 7, the gusts reaching level 9 while Ly Son and Phu Quy islands will see gusty winds at levels 7 and 8, respectively.

Saturday into next Tuesday, February 28, as the front is heading south over the country, it will have ample opportunity to create showers with scattered moderate rainfall and isolated heavy downpours and thunderstorms across in the parts from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, with the possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong winds.

The central provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien- Hue will also come under the influence of intense cold spell, and extreme cold temperatures are expected to strike some places.

The parts from from Da Nang to Quang Ngai are forecast to experience very cold at night time and during early mornings, regional forecasters warned.

Cold temperatures are expected to strike the parts from Quang Binh to Thua Thien- Hue as the minimum temperature is predicted to drop to 15 to 17 degrees Celsius in Quang Binh and Quang Tri, even 13 to 15 degrees Celsius in their mountainous areas, 16 to 18 degrees Celsius in Thua Thien- Hue Province, and even 14-16 degrees Celsius in its mountainous areas. Cold front will also see temperatures plummet in the parts from Da Nang to Quang Ngai, with temperatures expected to range from 17 to 19 degrees Celsius.

Saturday into Sunday, the waters of the Hoang Sa Islands could experience strong northeasterly winds of levels 6 to 7, gustiness of levels 8 to 9, rough seas with waves as high as 4-6 m. A warning for northeasterly winds at level 6, sometimes at level 7, and the gusts reaching levels 8 to 9, rough seas with waves as high as 3-5 m is issued to the open waters off the Quang Binh – Quang Ngai Coast, including Da Nang.

On Sunday, strong northeasterly winds at levels 6 to 7, and gustiness of levels 8 to 9, as well as rough seas with waves as high as 3-6m are in forecast for the Hoang Sa Islands while the open waters off the Quang Binh - Quang Ngai coast, including Da Nang, could continue to experience strong northeasterly winds at level 6, sometimes level 7, and the gusts reaching levels 8 to 9, as well rough seas with waves as high 3-5m.
