The Da Nang Oncology Hospital recently collaborated with the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital to organise a workshop to introduce and share the project ‘Improving treatment capacity of cervical cancer in Viet Nam’ (ACTIVE).

During the event, delegates made presentations and shared new knowledge on cervical cancer screening and treatment in Viet Nam, as well as gave lessons and recommendations for the prevention and early detection of cervical cancer to be more effective in the coming time.

ACTIVE is a project to fight cervical cancer through the application of the latest treatment technique - Image-guided adaptive brachytherapy (IGABT).

IGABT is a high-precision radiation that allows defining accurately treatment targets and optimizing their coverage whereas sparing efficiently the surrounding organs at risk.

The project helps improve cervical cancer treatment capacity in the North, Central and South regions of Viet Nam with full equipment and the use of textbooks meeting international standards.

According to data published by the World Health Organisation (WHO), 90% of all deaths from cervical cancer are recorded in low- and middle-income countries. In recent years, the number of women with cervical cancer has been on rise in Viet Nam.

As a developing country, Viet Nam has still faced many difficulties in building and upgrading health infrastructure like developed countries, so it has not yet made great progress in cancer treatment.
