Volunteer on the front line against COVID-19
Doctor Vi was born and grew up in Hoa Xuan Ward, Cam Le District. Since childhood, with the desire to become a doctor to save as many lives as possible, Vy tried her best to study and passed the entrance exam to the Faculty of Traditional Medicine, the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, one of the largest of its kind in Viet Nam, in 2012.
Having graduated from the university in 2018 with an excellent degree, Vi was recruited as a doctor at the Faculty of Traditional Medicine - Rehabilitation at the Lien Chieu District Medical Centre.
The time volunteering on the frontline of COVID-19 prevention and control, participating in the examination, care and treatment of infected patients has left unforgettable memories on Vi.
In 2020, when the pandemic broke out in the city, Vi was one of the first doctors at her centre to provide medical support at the centralised quarantined facilities on Nguyen Chanh Street, Lien Chieu District for people returning from abroad.
In June 2021, COVID-19 was complicated, she continued to voluntarily take the lead in providing medical support at the dormitory to the west of the city where COVID-19 close contacts stay and was on duty at pandemic prevention and control posts.
Every day, Vi actively provided medical care, measures body temperature and checks health of those in close contacts with COVID-19 patients. Despite facing a very high risk of infection, she was always highly devoted to her work and ready to perform well the assigned tasks
“Although there will be many difficulties and dangers that may even affect our health, a doctor who is afraid of them will not be able to help patients. Participating in the fight against the pandemic at a peak time, the love for the profession is the driving force that motivates me to continue with my voluntary tasks”, said Vi.
Help those in critical condition
At the end of 2021, the female doctor continued to participate in the mobile medical station for COVID-19 prevention and control in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward, Lien Chieu District, directly instructing in isolation treatment and care for those infected with COVID-19 at home or the place of residence.
In the period from January 2022 to March 2022, the number of infections monitored at home climbed up, while medical personnel numbers at mobile stations, facilities and medical equipment were limited. Although difficulties pile up, with her youth, along with many times of anti-pandemic experience, Vi is more determined and tries her best for the job and mission assigned.
“I remember more than a year ago, while on duty on the last day of January, 2022, I received a call from a woman in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward asking for medical assistance for her husband who was critically ill with COVID-19. We quickly went to the house and found that the patient was having difficulty breathing, had a history of gastrectomy, and was in very poor health. Immediately after that, we immediately gave first aid, assisted ventilators to stabilise the patient’s health, and contacted emergency services. Thanks to our promptness and timeliness in the first aid process, the patient was taken to the hospital safely and recovered after receiving treatment. If you slow down, it will most likely affect the patient's life”, said Vi.
After long days of fighting against the pandemic, when the COVID-19 situation was under control, the young female doctor continued to perform well in medical examination and treatment at the centre, contributing to creating trust and peace of mind for many patients when coming to the Department of Traditional Medicine - Rehabilitation, Lien Chieu District Medical Centre.
Doctor Ngo Van Khanh, the Deputy Head of the Department of Traditional Medicine - Rehabilitation, Lien Chieu District Health Centre said: “As one of the young doctors at the centre, Vi is always eager to learn and shows her high dedication towards patients. During the COVID-19 complicated developments, the doctor volunteered to be on the front lines of the fight against the pandemic, actively participating in examination, care, treatment, and support at the pandemic prevention checkpoints. Vi is trusted and appreciated by leaders, colleagues and loved by patients.
