Cold air blankets northern region, high temperatures grip southeast region
Viet Nam’s National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has said that cold wave and foggy conditions continue to prevail across Northern Viet Nam and North Central Coast on Thursday. The coolest temperatures are in the early morning and at night across these areas with the minimum temperature likely to drop to 14-17 degrees Celsius.
Scattered light rain is possible over the Northeast region and Ha Noi, and these areas are likely to see scattered light fog in the early morning. It will be mostly sunny in the noon and afternoon.
Meanwhile, Central Highlands and Southern region experience sunny weather during the daytime and high temperatures are scorching southeast region with maximum temperature expected to touch above 35 degrees Celsius at isolated locations.
Thursday night into Friday daytime, a high wind warning is in effect for the Northern part and the middle of the East Sea (including the waters of the Hoang Sa Islands), the open waters off the Binh Dinh - Ca Mau Coast, including Da Nang, western part of South East Sea (including waters of western part of Truong Sa Islands) as these areas could see strong northeasterly winds at level 6, sometimes level 7, gustiness of levels 8 to 9, rough seas with waves as high as 2-5m.
National forecasters have issued warnings of strong winds and big waves to all vessels and fishermen operating at the above-mentioned affected areas.
On Thursday, residents in the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue brace for cold weather, isolated light rain with the early morning fog likely in some places while scattered rainfall is in forecast for the southern part of the region. North to northwest winds at levels 2 to 3 could reach these areas. Maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to hover around 22-25 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperature will be in the range of 16-19 degrees Celsius. These areas are forecast to experience very cold at night time and during early mornings.
Scattered showers and the potential for thunderstorms are expected throughout the day today across the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan. By the coastal areas they will see high winds at levels 4 to 5, and gustiness of levels 6 to 7, and even above level 6 in some places while farther inland you could find gradually increasing northeasterly wind at levels 2- 3. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 19 to 22 degrees Celsius and 22 to 24 degrees in the northern and southern part of the region, respectively, and highs of 24 to 27 degrees Celsius in the northern part, and 28 to 30 degrees Celsius in the southern part.
