In attendance at the launching ceremony were Standing Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Nguyen Ngoc Luong, Executive Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Khuat Viet Hung, and Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam.

According to Secretary Nguyen Ngoc Luong, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union determined that publicising and maintaining traffic order and safety is a key task in the Youth Union's work and youth movement.

The focus will be on widely publicising the implementation of policies and laws on traffic safety, educating the youth on the law on traffic order and safety, effectively deploying the campaign "Youth with traffic culture" among officials, Youth Union members and children, promoting the role of "traffic safety school gate”, "safety ferry terminal" and “Safe road-railway intersection” models; arranging youth teams and groups to participate in traffic regulation and maintenance; and especially deploying the year "Youth Pioneers with Digital Transformation".

In 2023, unions and associations at all levels will increase the use of digital technologies in traffic safety awareness rasing campaigns.

In his remarks at the launching ceremony, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam said that, in the past time, thanks to great efforts made by local authorities and relevant units, the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in the city has seen positive changes, and road users' sense of self-discipline to obey the law has been improved. However, the results of reducing traffic accidents are not sustainable, and some districts have not been able to control the number of traffic accidents.

Mr. Nam suggested the district-level authorities and relevant units continue to take effective measures to control and strictly handle violations of alcohol and drug concentration regulations, driving in the wrong lane, illegally stopping or parking, overloading, exceeding the specified number of people, not wearing helmets when riding motorbikes, and illegal car racing.

At the launching ceremony, the participating units signed a commitment to respond and well implement the Traffic Safety Year 2023.

On the occasion, the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Youth Union awarded Certificates of Merit to 12 provinces and cities in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the movement to ensure traffic order and safety in 2022. The organisers awarded prizes for a contest to create avatar frames with slogans to propagate traffic safety.

Besides, the Youth Union organisation of the Ministry of Transport donated a VND30 million project on lighting up rural roads to Da Nang.

At the same time, the Standing Committee of the Da Nang Youth Union launched a team of young people to take part in handling unusual traffic situations.

After the launching ceremony, the Organising Committee visited and presented gifts to the families of victims of traffic accidents.
