Pham Thi Hong Linh, 22, hailing from Bac Giang Province, said that the environmentally friendly public bike rental service brought new and exciting experience to locals and visitors, especially young people when visiting and discovering tourist attractions in the city.

Ms. Le Thi Tuyet Nhu, a resident of Hai Chau 1 Ward, Hai Chau District, remarked she and her friends really liked this model because they only needed to spend VND10,000/hour on an exercise bike regardless of the time of day instead of going to sports centers and gyms. “Currently, my friend group has switched from indoor exercise to cycling service around the city" she noted.

According to bike users, the bike rental application is easy to use, as well as rental points are located near bus stations in the city, making travel more economical. The rental cost is quite cheap, suitable for students and workers. With this new model, it is expected to help visitors experience a new form of tourism that is both healthy and convenient in travel.

A collaborator who is in charge of guiding the use of the TNGO app said that in recent days, the public bike rental model has drawn much attention from a lot of local residents and tourists.

During the rental process, users can temporarily lock bikes and reopen them when needed through the app on their smartphones. The completion of the bike rental is calculated when the users return bikes at any station, so it is very convenient. Bike users can easily raise and lower seats, and all bikes are new so they should pedal very smoothly.

“Such public bikes will become friendlier to locals and tourists to make bike rides along Bach Dang - Nhu Nguyet, Tran Hung Dao and Chuong Duong streets in order to enjoy the fresh air and fully admire the poetic beauty on the both banks of the Han River" Ms. Mai Thi Tam, a tourist from Ha Noi, said.

A representative from the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Centre highlighted that the public bike rental service is a good and meaningful product in the current period when a lot of people and tourists want to take a tour around the central areas and tourist destinations in Da Nang. The introduction of such service in the city contributes to gradually changing the habits of local residents, and and Vietnamese people as a whole, in protecting the environment, towards a green and clean life.

This is just a pilot model. In the coming time, the service will be put into use with many popular languages such as English, South Korean, Chinese, and Japanese, making it easier for tourists to access.

Hopefully, the model will continue to be maintained and widely developed so as to create healthy habits, serve the travel needs of locals, and develop more eco-friendly tourism activities in the city.

Mr. Do Ba Quan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tri Nam Digital Transport Service JSC - the investor of the public bike project, said he was very happy as the transport model attracted foreign tourists, especially those from South Korea, apart from domestic tourists, and young local people.

“This is a community-oriented project, so the company wishes to develop an experiential, and environmentally friendly tourism product that is welcomed by locals and visitors. From the first pilot day on March 18 to April 5, there were 45,394 bike rentals with a total of 41,781 hours of rental, and 275,691km of travelled distance, an average of 13,785km/day" he said.

However, the unit investing in the installation of the public bicycle system is waiting after a period of time to assess the actual use needs, because when it is deployed, most of them have a need for experience. The company also hopes that Da Nang has certain advantages for ensuring the feasibility of the model.

The public bicycle rental service project was piloted by the municipal Department of Transport at 61 public bicycle stations with about 600 bicycles.

Specifically, there are 32 stations in Hai Chau District, 5 in Thanh Khe District, 16 in Son Tra District, 5 in Ngu Hanh Son District and 3 in Cam Le District.

During the pilot period of 12 months from the date of operation, the bike ride costs VND5,000 (US$0.21) for every 30 minutes and VND50,000 ($2.1) per day. Bike users must download the TNGO app on their cellphones to unlock the vehicles and can pay via e-wallets including ZaloPay, MoMo, ViettelPay, and VTC Pay. In fact, the payment fee corresponding to such renal durations helps users flexibly rent the bike according to their real needs.

After a year of piloting, the department will summarise, evaluate and report to the municipal People's Committee for consideration and decision to replicate the model if the public bicycle service is effective, contributing to limiting the use of personal vehicles, and reducing environmental pollution, towards a green and sustainable transport system.
