To raise awareness about safe working for employees, every 6 months, the Safety Board of Central Regional Cement Company Limited in Hoa Khuong Commune, Hoa Vang District organizes a contest to find risks in the workplace. This is an initiative that has helped the company, over the past years significantly reduce occupational accidents.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy, Head of the Company's Safety Department, safety work is only really guaranteed when employees are properly aware of risks. This fact prompted the company to launch such a contest to find risks.

Accordingly, all employees at each different job will observe risks they may encounter while working. Those risks can stem from objective or subjective reasons and the level of danger.

After employees present the risks they are aware of in their job positions, the company's Safety Board will synthesize, analyze and evaluate the risks from a professional perspective to build safety regulations at each specific job position. The competition's prize will be given to new, high-risk findings.

“The self-assessment of hazards has created a perception of risk among workers. Since then, there have been major changes in safety assurance. Moreover, in jobs prone to occupational accidents, the company will put up hazard warning signs, visual safety instructions for workers so that they can be careful whilst working. We strive every day to carry out the slogan ‘One, two, three together safely - OK’. Moreover, the contest helped to perfect the guiding regulations on occupational safety to limit risks in each department and working position.”, said Mr. Thuy.

Meanwhile, for many years, the Foster Electronics Co., Ltd located in the Hoa Cam Industrial Park, Cam Le District has established the Occupational Safety Board to ensure occupational safety and hygiene for workers and employees. The company provides funds for the members of the Board to increase their responsibilities with work as well as encourage them to put more efforts in ensuring occupational safety and health.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, a worker at Foster Electronics Co., Ltd. said: “We are very reassured to receive the company's care and support, from the provision of protective gears to the safety instructions. We are constantly reminded in every work shift.”

According to the Chairman of the Trade Union organisation of Foster Electronics Co., Ltd. Bui Minh Vu: “Every year, the company implements many activities to improve occupational safety for workers such as training on fire prevention and fighting and first aid provision. Employees are fully equipped with uniforms and equipment to ensure safe work in the production process.

At the same time, before the shift, the safety and hygiene students of each worker group will be responsible for communicating the contents related to occupational safety for workers so that they understand and apply these regulations throughout the working process”.

According to Chairman of the Trade Union organisation of the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Zones Nguyen Thanh Trung, Trade Unions chapters at all levels have paid attention to improving occupational safety and health knowledge for grassroots Trade Union officials to participate in supervision and inspection courses so that they can well perform their tasks  at enterprises.

Currently, the main cause of accidents is that workers have not been trained in occupational safety and health and are subjective in operating machinery and equipment. Therefore, the Trade Union organisations shall actively promote the improvement of the quality and operational efficiency of those who are in charge of supervising labour safety at production facilities, helping to keep the production and business process uninterrupted, and improve productivity and product quality.
