At around 7:00 p.m. on April 27, while practicing in the waters about 120 nautical miles north of Da Bac island, Hoang Sa Archipelago, a crewman onboard the ship QNg 94358TS from the central coastal province of Quang Ngai was hit in the head by the crane, causing large open wounds and serious injuries.
In a quick response to call made by the vessel’s captain for urgent support, the Viet Nam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (Viet Nam MRCC) requested the vessel to immediately stop operating and change its course to the mainland, and at the same time asking the Da Nang 115 Emergency Centre to provide medical advice for the fisherman in distress.
Through the medical team's diagnosis, the crew member suffered from complicated head injuries, closed traumatic brain injury, broken left collarbone, lost a lot of blood, and he was in a desperate need of emergency care at that time. If delayed, it could lead to death.
Facing the critical situation, Viet Nam MRCC dispatched the SAR 412 ship belonging to Da Nang MRCC to carry out the rescue mission. At 9:27 a.m. on April 28, the maritime rescue force approached vessel QNg 94358TS and immediately deployed on-site first aid to the injured crew member.
With the efforts and dedication made by the medical team and rescue workers, the fisherman was initially out of critical condition and showed signs of awareness. At 9:15p.m, the ship SAR 412 brought him to the Da Nang mainland safely, and he was then rushed to the hospital for further treatment.
