On Wednesday, the Da Nang Red Cross Society officially launched the Humanitarian Month 2023 in the build up to the 160th anniversary of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2023 (May 8).

Also at the event, the Da Nang Red Cross Society launched a movement called ‘Good people, good deeds - working together to build a compassionate community’ with the aim of spreading kindness, promoting kind action, contributing to building a cultural lifestyle, and upholding humanitarian values in the community.

After 5 years of organising Humanitarian Month, the city's Red Cross Society raised tens of billions of VND, and supported over 60 poor and disadvantaged people, thereby contributing to ensuring the city's welfare security.

During the ‘Humanitarian Month 2023’ associated with the movement ‘Good people, good deeds - working together to build a compassionate community’, the municipal Red Cross Society and its chapters at all levels strive to mobilise resources to support at least a humanitarian address or implement a humanitarian project.

The focus will be on raising VND 5 billion from individuals and organisations to help 15,000 households living near or below the city's poverty threshold, and those in difficult circumstances.

Each district-level chapter of the municipal Red Cross Society sets a target to raise a minimum of VND50 million, whilst chapters at ward and commune levels strive to raise at least VND5 million each.

Under the campaign ‘Each organisation, each individual attaches to a humanitarian address’, the municipal Red Cross Society sets the target to support 1,000 humanitarian addresses, build 10 Red Cross houses, organise a program of 10,000 zero-dong meals, and provide free medical checkups and treatment for 1,000 people.

At the launching ceremony, the city's Red Cross Society received cash and in-kind donations, totalling nearly VND1.5 billion, from generous agencies, units, organisations and individuals.
