In response to the 2nd Viet Nam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2023, the Book Club of the Viet Nam-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education in Da Nang (VNUK) in collaboration with the school library held an event to swap books for stone lotus pots.

Held from April 17 - 21, the event collected more than 250 books in various genres.

Knowing the event from the early days, Nguyen Tran Tien Phuc, 20, a student of Business Administration Faculty brought 16 books to the event and received small stone lotus pots to decorate his living space.

Holding the newly received stone lotus pots, Phuc happily said “I often go to the school library to borrow books. So, as a way to give back, I brought books I've read to the library in order to enrich the library's book resources. I hope my books will help and bring joy to many other students”.

Similarly, instead of selling used books, Nguyen Thi Hoai Thanh, 20, majoring International Business Administration, contributed 7 books to the school's library.

Talking about the reason for bringing books to the event, Thanh shared “Even after graduation, these books are always present in the school library and become useful to someone. It can help other students easily access knowledge, save money on buying books, and accumulate experience for the learning process at school. It makes me feel very happy to be able to share my books with others.”

Student Dinh Thi Ngoc Anh, Chairman of the VNUK Book Club, said that this is the second time the club has organised the event to swap books for stone lotus pots.

Anh said that she was very happy when the event was responded to by many lecturers and students. This year, the club's target was to collect 100 books. However, in a short time, the number of books received exceeded the target in terms of quantity and quality.

“Through the event of exchanging books for lotus, we hope to help students save space and costs for using books, and at the same time, motivate them to perform useful actions for the community" Anh emphasised.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, who is in charge of the library, highly appreciated the significance of the event. She remarked the purpose of the event was to expand book resources so that readers can have more resources for learning.

In addition, the event drew much attention of both lecturers and students, so the library received a variety of book genres, thereby helping the library to attract more readers and spreading reading culture in schools, she added.
