Chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in Da Nang today, hot weather expected to give way to milder conditions from tomorrow

An unsettled weather pattern is beginning to take shape that looks to bring the western part of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, along with the parts from Da Nang to Phu Yen and Central Highlands periods of showers and thunderstorms beginning late this afternoon, Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has said.

The national weather service has forecast widely scattered showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon hours on Thursday with localized heavy downpours across these areas. Heavy rainfall of 20mm - 40mm is predicted in common across these areas with more than 70 mm of rain expected to dump at isolated places.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms at most places with moderate to heavy falls at isolated places during late afternoon and night hours are also likely over the parts from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien-Hue, and the Southern region today. Rain amounts on Thursday are forecast to generally average between 10 and 30 mm with more than 50mm possible in some places.

Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds in the warning areas, national forecasters has warned. Localized flooding alerts are in place in low-lying areas.

The national weather service has placed these areas under a natural hazard alert at level 1 for tornadoes, lightning, and hail today.

The parts from Quang Tri to Binh Dinh, including Da Nang, are under heat advisory as the scorching temperatures are currently baking the city.

These areas will sizzle on Thursday as the mercury may rise above 37 degrees Celsius at isolated locations, with 35 to 36 degrees Celsius expected across the region.

Heat is continuing to bake the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan today with scattered chances for showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon and evening hours with localized heavy rain in the parts from Da Nang to Phu Yen. These areas could experience the Southwest Wind at levels 2 to 3. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 24 to 27 degrees Celsius and highs of 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, even above 37 degrees Celsius at isolated places.
