New cold front bringing rain and and thunder chances Friday
A new strong cold front is swinging into the Northwest region and North Central Coast on Friday, bringing rain, rounds of winds and a chance for thunderstorms in these areas, according to Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).
Under these conditions, by the coastal areas they will see high winds at level 3, and farther inland you could find gradually increasing northeasterly wind at levels 2 to 3.

Today, breezy northeasterly winds will bring in cooler air to the Northeast region and Thanh Hoa as lows will fall to 21 to 23 degrees Celsius, even below 20 degrees Celsius in their mountainous areas.
Strong northeasterly winds at level 5 is in forecast for the Gulf of Tonkin while its northern part will see strong northeasterly winds at level 6, and the gusts reaching at levels 7 to 8, as well rough seas with waves as high 1.5-2.5m.
The Northwest region will see scattered showers and thunderstorms with localised moderate to heavy falls on Friday. The total rainfall amount will be 10mm to 30mm in common in these areas while more than 50mm of rain could fall in some places.
Light to moderate rain and thunderstorm chances with localised heavy to very heavy downpours will develop across the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien- Hue. As much as 20mm-50mm of rain could fall over these areas, and even more than 80mm at isolated locations.
The highest chance of showers and thunder with localised moderate to heavy rain will come during the afternoon and evening hours over South Central Coast, Central Highlands and Southern regions. These areas could receive 10mm-30mm of rain with over 60mm possible in some places.
A severe thunderstorm will bring potentially damaging conditions such as high winds, hail, lightning, and tornadoes, the national forecasters have warned.
The best chance for showers and thunderstorms is likely on Friday in the Gulf of Tonkin and the open waters off the Quang Tri - Quang Ngai coast, including Da Nang. A tornado watch has been issued for these areas.
Clouds increase today and scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will develop during the late afternoon and evening hours across the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan with highs around 31-34 degrees Celsius and lows around 24-27 degrees Celsius. Strong winds, hail, and tornadoes are also dangers associated with some thunderstorms, NCHMF has said.
